Lieux Miroir is a choreographic piece in augmented reality that unfolds on three real places, which become imaginary places: the place in the corners, the square of the tower, the passage to the witches. The work gives access to a hidden dimension of the place inhabited by dancers.
Dance questions our paradoxes, the fragmentation of our identities. Each space reveals a facet of the caleidoscopic personality of three choreographic characters.
They are first of all guides, which appear in each place in a form inspired by the Non-Player Characters (NPCs) of video games. In this form, they deliver messages to spectators.
In contact with the spaces, they transform, revealing another of their many facets.
Various interactive modules allow the viewer to discover the play by following his own path.
Lieux Miroir was created for the first time in Aubusson in co-production with the Scène Nationale of Aubusson.
The work is designed to be deployed in other territories: the choreographic scenes are placed in three places; the guides are partly rewritten to adapt their message.
ARTISTIC INTENTION
"When I started my research on choreographic creation in augmented reality, I had the intuition that augmented reality would allow me to gather two patiently dug furrows that seem contradictory. On the one hand, the relationship of the body to the environment, which starts from an observational posture that brings into play all the senses of perception: feeling what the environment tells us, and transcribing these sensations in motion. On the other hand, the relationship of the body to technologies, which follows the first: it is because the world was populated with tools that I wanted to explore this relationship of the body with tools and technologies.
It is therefore in these two a priori opposite directions that I conducted my research, which today leads to my first choreographic show in augmented reality: Lieux Miroir. The border between the inside and outside that I have always explored takes on a new meaning.
The relationship to spaces produces the imaginary postulate of the play; places have magical properties: revealing different facets of our personalities. To this relationship to places is added here the relationship between inner and outside of oneself, between public aspects and hidden inner aspects of our identities.
For the choreographic writing of these characters, I relied on qi gong, an internal martial art that I integrate into the composition as a writing technique. Qi gong allows me to invite dancers to look for sensations, feelings, memories, in a bodily way, without resorting to a psychological dimension.
Lieux Miroir is a hybrid work, between spectacle, visual work and playful journey. It realises my desire to build a play like a treasure hunt that mixes real and immaterial, and to give the public a full-fledged actor place in the performance process."
