LA FACE DANSÉE
DE L'AUTRE SOIE

L'Autre Soie

Villeurbanne

THE PROJECT

La face dansée de l'Autre Soie (The Dancing Side of L'Autre Soie) is an augmented reality choreographic tour, to be experienced on site at L'Autre Soie. A journey through space and time, an excursion into a dimension where L'Autre Soie is inhabited by dance.

Your mission: to piece together the danced history of the place.

Using the Revy mobile app, you can conjure virtual characters into real spaces. These dancers are people who live at, once lived at, or have passed through the site. Dancing guides who lead you into the many temporal layers of L'Autre Soie.

NARRATIVE: THE LOCATIONS

Everything begins with the place and the people who inhabit it. La face dansée de l'Autre Soie tells the story of a place that keeps the memory of its past inhabitants, and lets its future inhabitants come into view. A place with a hidden dimension where the bodies and voices of those who have passed through it, pass through it now, and will pass through it one day, make themselves felt. La face dansée de l'Autre Soie speaks of the way a place and its inhabitants shape one another.

This small piece of territory has been moulded by migration. Teenage factory girls of the early twentieth century, most of them from Eastern Europe, who came to work at the Soie Artificielle du Sud-Est factory (SASE, later renamed TASE, Textile Artificiel du Sud-Est). Migrants of the early twenty-first century, who began arriving here in 2016 — they too, for the most part, from Eastern Europe. A first thread running through time. The inhabitants of L'Autre Soie are also those who live there intermittently: the people who run the place, and the neighbours around it.

L'Autre Soie, like so many other territories, is built by these people, each of whom gives it a piece of their culture, their language, their soul.

La face dansée de l'Autre Soie was born in 2019 from a shared desire between the company and the CCO: to create, on the L'Autre Soie site, an augmented reality choreographic tour reflecting the place in all its diversity. An immaterial dance tour that stays with the place and endures over time. L'Autre Soie became a research laboratory for developing a shared creative process for dance in augmented reality.

Each year brings new scenes, new approaches to writing for augmented reality, a participatory protocol for involving a wide range of people in the creation, and the development of the app that will provide access to this shared work.
